So, like, I arrived really early, and like, saw some good sk8erboi acthun. Hung out with indiephone, and had semi-fun until everyone else showed up. Then it went real nice, and then it was a bummer, and then I got pissy and found a corner.
And then I left.
Except for indiephone, I didn’t really like much else. So, hmm, pixxorlies:

First off, I’m not responsible for how you use this information. I have already notified souq.com of this leak, and they are ‘working on it’. As for why I informed them, go figure. While it might be convenient to just buy everything at reserve price, what about sellers? There is probably a small window of a few days from the time I inform souq.com to when they fix it, so you can play to your heart’s content. Continue reading »

There is this gigantic signboard at the Burj Dubai construction site that says something along the lines of “This construction site has had zero accidents.”
I’d like to know how Samsung Corporation defines an ‘accident’. I’m eyewitness to at least two accidents. Once, it was a worker cutting his finger off. Granted, Samsung can’t exactly be held liable for that. They have an excellent safety induction programme. You can’t blame them if workers don’t follow instructions. I’ve heard a lot of ‘rumours’ about people falling off and dying. But you can’t blame Samsung for any of that. Continue reading »

I moved webhosts.
I’m back with Dreamhost again. I only left them when I did because I wanted windows hosting. I wanted to try my hand at making .net web applications. I was on a windows based hosting machine for a whole year. And it was hell. No shell/telnet access meant everything had to be done through ftp. The control panel was a pain in the ass.
I signed up for a ‘Personal plus’ account with Webhostasp. The promised 99.9% uptime is more like 25%. They have really bad DNS. I think they don’t even have a static IP. I lost data with them too. The email server took 3 days on average to route mails.
And to top it off, the support people were jerks who rarely replied. I’m lucky I got my domain transferred in time. Thankfully, that ordeal is over.
Dreamhost rocks my socks. And because I like giving and getting free things, you can sign up with Dreamhost using the promo code ‘NFXPROMO’ and save $34.40 off your bill and get another free domain. That’s 2 free domains total!

So I got myself a security pass for Dubai Airport. It gave me access to the arrivals and departures area. I just couldn’t go through passport control. Which isn’t a big deal anyway. I learnt quite a few things in my 24 hours there. Like DNATA is synonymous with incompetency.
Here are some facts you should know about Dubai airport:
- The air filters in the smoking rooms don’t work. Some of the smoking rooms don’t even have air filters.
- The ‘24/7 tourist information desk’ was unmanned for 9 hours.
- It is fairly easy for someone to move between the departures and arrivals areas without being stopped.
- The staff at the immigration desk are extremely unprofessional, rude, and have a less than passable knowledge of visa procedures. Their English language skill is also severely lacking.
- There are plasma screens in the departure are that are supposed to play movies. Instead, they flash a “NO SIGNAL” sign.
These and a few other problems really put DNATA to shame. Although most of the other issues aren’t as serious or annoying, they can pretty much get on your nerves if you’re on a long transit. Like unclean bathrooms. But an unmanned 24/7 tourist desk? One wonders how much tourism revenue is lost to these ‘minor’ management issues.
It’s about time DNATA wakes up. They’re sleeping on the fine line between slacking and professionalism.

Not.
HP tried REALLY hard to fuck up what could have been such a nice show. HP should stick to making shitty printers. The event was mismanaged. Nothing quite as bad as I am making it out to be, but it certainly could have been better.
I got there around 6:30 and met up with a friend. They let us in without much hassle and the generous Trendcrusher Pete accidentally gave us four tickets instead of two. Sadly, we had to return these out of decency.
So we went around the place checking things out, meeting people, breaking HP computers and stuff, waiting for the show to start. They had this really nice painting kiosk thingy for little children, who weren’t even allowed in. They had four crappy HP computers running Need for Speed Carbon on them. Good game, but shitty computers.
I don’t know what happened during the time I was getting some B/W film from Salaam stores, but when I got back, they had some lame comedian clown on stage. “Irra rwerre ougam firrim Scotland” was all I could hear. Seriously. Scottish pub sideshow comedians can not make a sober audience laugh. On top of that, he was filled with random borrowed clichéd material. What a sorry sod.

I saw Germans eating raw beef at a restaurant. And I discovered comments were broken in my Wordpress theme (thanks to roosh for bringing that to my attention). Well, comments are now fixed. Comment all you like.
So the Ampulance got indefinitely postponed. And my Friday was pretty much wasted, except for a massive meatfest in the evening. In the space of a few hours, I tasted more kinds of meat than I can count. Australian lamb stands out as the finest red meat, while Duck was wonderful too. Turkey is just overgrown chicken. The desserts were awesome, but I didn’t have much room left in me. I would have brought that chocolate fountain home with me if it were possible.
I still wish the gig hadn’t been cancelled.

Is the ‘French’ even correct? =\
So it’s my big day today. Bored at home for most of the day. Last night was fun. The night’s where it’s at. Tonight the desert shall witness heaven-breaking loud music. The clouds will tremble at the sound of Dark Side of the Moon.
Not really, no. Just headphones. =\
Okay back down to earth. Need new hosting. I can has? Anyone?
So out of boredom, on my big day, I am filling up my blogroll.
Yay!

Nine hours and two beefburgers later, my theme’s pretty much functional and looking good. I’m gonna release it on the INTERWEBS!!! But there are teensy weensy bugs, so it can’t be a version 1. Let’s make it a 0.95b. =D
Some stuff really sucks on IE (which itself sucks anyway). I’d appreciate some help with CSS on IE. I’m gonna call the theme Broken Pane. The theme’s attached to this post. Download it, and lemme know if there’s any trouble of any kind. I’m using a slightly modified version on my own blog.
[so i figure my theme is as broken as a a glass that fell from a mountain and i have not the energy to fix it]
My pixelpost setup is running smooth as well. So that’s a blog, a photoblog and a crazyfancycool homepage. Which I have yet to work on. But I can say I’m ready to take this site out for show and tell. And I will. It’s my birthday.
